AGENCY FOR WORKFORCE INNOVATION RELEASES STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF SB 1062/HB 641
TALLAHASSEE – Agency for Workforce Innovation Interim Director Cynthia Lorenzo today released the following statement on the passage of Senate Bill 1062/House Bill 641, the Accurate Employment Statistics Enhancement Act:
“This bill will help ensure economic development programs and job retraining funds are directed to the areas of greatest need,” said Interim Director Lorenzo. “I applaud bill sponsors Sen. Mike Fasano (R-New Port Richey), Rep. Steve Crisafulli (R-Merritt Island), our legislature and the National and Florida Associations of Professional Employer Organizations for recognizing the need to collect the most accurate employment and wage data possible during this challenging time in our economy so that we can better serve the people and businesses of Florida.”
Under current Unemployment Compensation Law, Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs) are allowed to report the employment and wage data of all businesses using their services under one account number, which can distort industry and geographic economic data. The Accurate Employment Statistics Enhancement Act would require PEOs to report each business’s data individually each quarter to the Agency for Workforce Innovation, Labor Market Statistics Center.
