Port St. Joe (Gulf County) - Designated: 2005
Located on St. Joseph's Bay in Gulf County, Port St. Joe has a long history of industrial waterfront activity. Deemed Florida's Constitution City, it was Port St. Joe where the state constitution was ratified in 1838 and where the capital of Florida was almost located. It survived as a mill town for generations until the mill's closure in 1998. Following the mill's closure, a waterfront master plan was created and integrated into an updated Community Redevelopment Agency plan to implement community redevelopment in an area still struggling to recover its economic base.
